About

I am simple, and I have much to learn about the world, about life, about people, about God.

If someone who reads my words gains something from them, I count that as a special honor. Primarily, though, I write to keep myself thinking, pondering, musing.

I often find myself with more questions than answers.

May we never cease to wonder.

Whoa. I think I’m a 39 year old version of you. Cool. Thanks for being you; it somehow validates me being me ;)

I came for the high school analogies and stayed for the kill the puppy advice, it’s an important thing to keep in mind. Thanks!

  • Definitely, may we never cease to wonder. Loved the analogies btw – just priceless!

I like it. I’ve taught senior high English for 17 years, and I can hear the voice of former students in your blog. I think I might hear some current students in here… :-)
I would like to share some of your blog pieces in my Senior English class this year. Their Senior Paper, a WHOLE 5-8 pages, is due on 12/20, and they are FREAKING out!! (They started Oct. 1st.)
I look forward to sharing some laughs with them! THANK YOU!!

help! please!!! i came on to the site to see the funny schoolroom metaphors — and then signed up for email alerts when future metaphor comments were posted. now i am getting dozens and dozens of these emails. i thought i woulkd get one or two now and then, but i my inbox is very nmuch filled now with these emails. i do not want those alerts anymore. it was a mistake to invite them. but now i looked all over the site for a way to get off the email list — but i cannot find it. i see no way of getting help. can anyone please help me? thank you!!

    • I’ve never had to unsubscribe from anything before, so unfortunately I don’t exactly know what to tell you. I suspect, though, that at the bottom of those emails, there is probably a link to unsubscribe. I hope you’re able to get it figured out!

    Bethany,
I stumbled upon your post on analogies- hilarious :-p – shared it on my fb post- and your waiting room idea for a movie is quite funny – can see anne hathway and james franco doing it- (unlike their oscar co_hosting)…:) might be very funny ! i feel a bit like a 38 yr old version of you – just like some previous posters here…keep up the good work.

Job well done! Keep on doing what you’re doing, because it has more impact on people’s lives than you could ever possibly know. I, too, came for the FB link on the analogies and just got caught up in all of your entries…Very, very impressive! And, may I add, very appropriate for this particular time in my life. Thank you!

  • Hey! I’m interviewing other bloggers for my blog http://www.thepreppypostgrad.com. Would I be able to interview you to talk about how it feels to have a post go VIRAL? Great post by the way! Loved those analogies!!

    Hi Bethany,

I am a Masters students at the London School of Economics, studying Media and Communications. For my dissertation I am very interested in doing a field of research on the influence of plus-size models on the media today. I am from Brazil and there we are now emerging in terms of plus-size market, to finally fulfil the needs of the real women who were at first almost unable to buy clothes if they were above size 12.

Anyways, my point is, I would love to interview you. I believe you live in the States (correct me if I’m wrong) and I am obviously in London, so I know that sounds hard.. However, if you are willing to respond to some questions via e-mail that would be fantastic.

The research still has to undergo major preparation.. but I am working out my methodology now. The interview would be around March-April.

Thank you so much for your time and attention.
    Kind regards,
    Renata Rocha (R.Rocha@lse.ac.uk)
